Certified Health CoachHelping you channel your full potential
Hi, I’m Michael, let me get to know you better and help you to start your journey to a improved life.
My Approach
Hello, my name is Dr. Michael Rahman PhD. Before you work with me, I want to tell you a bit about what drew me to the field of helping others.
When I was 33, I had “the big scare”, a life-threatening illness that forced me to face my mortality. This news frightened my family, so you can believe me when I tell you – if you are going through a major health crisis, I know what you must be going through.
I was already aware of the transformative potential of nutrition and lifestyle changes to alter the trajectory of dire illness, so I travelled to Europe. It was there that I learned how to heal myself FULLY and INTEGRATIVELY.
That conquest sparked an ambition in me to share my discoveries in a deeply integrated manner. I co-founded Toronto’s Pinewood Natural Health Centre in 1997, eventually opening an adjunct practice in Pickering in 2003.
Determined to open a training facility dedicated to teaching integrative health care therapies to professionals, I established the Pinewood Institute for the Advancement of Natural Therapies in 2005.
My own training began with a Bachelor of Science with an emphasis on biology at McMaster University in 1993, followed by a four-year post-graduate program in Natural Therapies.
Today, I happily find myself in the space of clinical practice now for over 30 years. I strive to bring the newest innovation and scientific advancements to my clients and to share this knowledge with other health care professionals through teaching and publishing.
I believe in continuous lifelong education and learning. Not a day goes by when I don’t feel I’ve been challenged by some new morsel of information. My own desire to expand my knowledge in the last several years has included a path of full integration or SEEKING.
My seeking led me overseas, where I graduated as a Distinguished Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biomedical Science. I have co-authored six research publications in The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) Journal.” My published Ph.D. research on white fat and weight loss won international awards of merit.
I now bring to you Custom Wellness Coaching, my new streamlined and progressive wellness coaching service, to help you make the best health and lifestyle care choices possible. Wellness coaching is different than my clinical practice; it gives me the chance to work with you in a greater capacity to help you attain life goals and make lasting lifestyle changes.
Every client that is brought to me is a gift and an opportunity for higher learning. I am grateful to do what I do and be of service to you.

What people are saying
My bloodwork always showed up normal but I was losing weight, had no appetite and felt nervous all the time - as if I had 10 cups of coffee when I didn’t even drink coffee. When did the first step, I learned that I had a thyroid imbalance that was very subtle and not showing up in my blood work. It was also pointed out to me that chronic anxiety and living in a state of fight or flight causing the thyroid imbalance. As I work on the fears, my thyroid is getting better and I’m feeling calmer overall.
When I first visited Michael Rahman in 2016, I was 70 pounds overweight, and I had just been diagnosed with diabetes with blood sugar levels hovering at 6.5. After a thorough analysis, and weekly treatments for weight loss, I lost 80 pounds in 4 months. My bloods sugar lowered to a prediabetic level of 5.9, where it has remained steady for the past six years. I am forever grateful to Michael Rahman for being there for me, halting the progress of diabetes (known as the silent killer), and encouraging me too positive and less sedentary.
After going through a terrible divorce, job change and traumatic move to another city, I just could not get it together to have any enthusiasm for my life. I could not stop thinking about the past and lying in bed all day. What was originally diagnosed as a chronic fatigue issue, was actually due to prolonged emotional stress. The HRV and OAT blood test revealed that high cortisol levels rose, they never went down again, playing havoc with my kidneys, liver and heart. Supplements and life style changes, including dropping coping mechanisms like smoking, helped me to chill out and become focused, once again.
Chemo treatment left me with a bald scalp, no appetite and terrible fatigue. A Quantum scan was administered to find out just where my life force was weakest, and I was given a meal plan, lifestyle suggestions and a customized supplement to help me face life again. It’s six months later and my hair is growing in. My appetite is much better and I have lots of energy to take long walks in the park.
I visited Custom Wellness to find out what foods were provoking my rheumatoid arthritis. A Blood test I provided, and the OATS test revealed that I was actually eating too many of the same foods, thinking that they were good for my condition, and that I needed to introduce a variety of new nutrients into my diet to help reduce the progression of the disease. I have now eliminated all of the inflammatory foods that were making it painful for me to move and am taking my composite supplement pill to alleviate pain and make sure I am well nourished.
